That`s the spirit. Being dead doesn`t mean you have to give up on your dreams.

Charles Lamb, a mayoral candidate in Edmond, Oklahoma, has finished second behind Dan O’Neill in a three-horse primary despite being dead since December. Mr O’Neill described the situation as “sort of awkward”.

Mr Lamb, who had been mayor since October 2011, put his name forward for re-election before he died. When he passed away, it was too late to remove his name from the ballot or to add anyone else. If he wins on April 2nd, a mayor would be appointed by Edmond City Council.

Lamb died in December at age 72 after he had filed to run for another term, but voters’ decision to put him on the ballot is political. The top two candidates advance in city elections, and if residents elected Lamb posthumously, they could block O’Neil’s candidacy by giving the city council the authority to appoint his successor.
A Facebook page titled “Vote for Charles Lamb” encouraged residents to back Lamb.
“There are other qualified candidates who did not file out of respect for Mayor Lamb, and we should honour his legacy by voting for him and allowing our council to appoint a qualified person to lead our city,” a post on the page said.
